The challenge

In the pharmaceutical industry, everything revolves around preventing contamination and protecting products during storage and transport. Regulations such as GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) set high requirements for materials and processes. A wooden pallet is a poor fit: it is porous, can go mouldy and sheds fibres and splinters.

Why plastic pallets?

  • Non-porous: bacteria and moisture do not stand a chance.
  • Washable and cleanable with water, high pressure or cleaning agents.
  • Splinter-free, with no sharp edges.
  • Anti-slip available, for stability on wet or sloping surfaces.
  • Resistant to temperature changes.
  • Less maintenance and lower replacement costs than wood.

Our recommended pallets

For cleanrooms and other controlled environments, there are our cleanroom pallets with a closed deck, on 3 or 5 runners. For the rest of the chain, the hygienic pallets of 1200 x 800 and 1200 x 1000 mm are a good choice. They are made of virgin plastic.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a cleanroom pallet?

A cleanroom pallet is a plastic pallet with a closed, smooth design that does not release particles such as wood fibres or splinters. You clean it before it enters the controlled area.

How do I clean plastic pallets?

You can wash plastic pallets with water, under high pressure or with cleaning agents. Ask us about the suitable temperature and agents for the model you use.

Are plastic pallets suitable for GMP?

Plastic pallets help you meet GMP requirements, because they are non-porous, do not absorb moisture and are easy to clean. Whether a pallet fits within your quality system is for you to decide, based on your own procedures.
